The Senior Special Assistant to Nasarawa State Governor on Public Affairs, Comrade Peter Ahemba, has said the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule had prioritised women and youth empowerment to reduce the unemployment rate and youth restiveness in the state.

Comrade Ahemba said this during an interactive session with newsmen in Lafia, the Nasarawa State Capital.

According to him, the administration had invested in human capital development through skills acquisition training, youth revolving loan scheme, and payment of monthly stipend to indigent women.

This, the Senior Special Assistant said, had significantly reduced the unemployment rate and addressed youths’ restiveness in the state.

“Nasarawa state is no longer top of the unemployment chart in Nigeria, this feat is achieved through the establishment of a skills acquisition institute, the first of its kind in the North Central.

“A lot of youth have graduated and set up their own businesses, additionally, the Government has been consciously rolling out monetary assistance to vulnerable women, some of these women have saved some money to set up businesses,” he said.

Ahemba said that Sule’s administration has made significant progress in all sectors of economy, education, health, security, agriculture, and infrastructural development across the 13 local government areas of the state.

Speaking on the delay in conducting Local Government elections in the state, Ahemba said that the delay was due to the court order restraining the process which was earlier initiated by the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission.

“I can inform you authoritatively that the court issue has been addressed, the government is now ready to conduct local government elections, now that the governor is back from his trip,” he said.

On the implementation of the new minimum wage, Governor Aide said the Government was ready to implement the new wage, noting that they now waiting for the organised labour in the state to begin the discussion.
