The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the position of chairman in Karu local government area of Nasarawa State, Engineer Kefas Danlami Kaura, said there was no election conducted in the local government on October 6, 2021.
He said what actually happened was brought day robbery of the People’s mandate, despite the large turnout of voters to exercise their franchise.
Engineer Kaura made the remarks in Keffi while briefing journalists on the outcome of the polls.
According to him, the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission and the ruling APC started the robbery process by delaying the distribution of election materials,meant for the exercise.
“Let me cite an the example with Karu Ward, which had about 106,000 and above ballot papers, but only 28,000 ballot papers were issued them and the remaining were nowhere to be found.
“And I personally called the EO to tell him ,but he was given me flamzy excuses here and there saying he was going round to do so,and I said no,but the EO shamelessly said he thought it was already late and that people will not utilized it, as such he felt it shouldn’t be wasted.And I told him that that is not in his character and completely not in his powers not to distribute the ballot papers,which was printed by the state government for the purpose of the election.So whether they are used or not they are supposed to reach the designated polling units.
“At this juncture it became clear and glaring to me that there was going to be manipulation of results using the NASIEC staff ,using the security agents, because there were places where the security agents compromised,I have some clips to that effects as evidences.
Engineer Kefas who did not hide his dismay with the handling of the purported election,added that police were seen manhandling the electorates and the people for fear of their lives had to run away from their polling units” He added.
The PDP candidate further explained that in some places where there was unrest during the so-called election, when the police were contacted they never took action.
“So, I don’t believe that there was any election conducted by the NASIEC, APC government in Nasarawa State rather, an absolute robbery of Human mandate- in karu and by extention, in Nasarawa State.
“People had to protest against the injustices meted to them in Roguwa and Saka,they were supposed to give a polling unit 1400 ballot papers,but they end up presenting 1400 plus and some reminants of the unused ballot papers.
“Some person’s were not duly registered at all, most of them were seen using national ID cards and drivers licence and they were issued ballot papers to vote without checking” He added.
Engineer Kefas Kaura concluded that it was because of the perceived integrity of the governor that made him participated in the process, unknowingly to him that the governor was never a man of his words,but one with many colours.
“As I speak to you I have completely lost confidence on engineer Abdullahi Sule,whom if it was somebody that told me he is going to robbed the electorates in the manner they conducted the election I would have refused ,but I have just discovered that he is not what he presented himself to be”, Kefas lamented.
