The Nasarawa State Government has pledged its commitment with the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) to ensure state meets and align with NSSEC law to develop its senior secondary education board.
This is made known when the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Dr Iyela Ajayi and his team paid a working visit on the Executive Governor Nasarawa State Eng. Abdullahi Sule in Nasarawa State.
This meeting aims to pave way in repositioning the sector to meet the national and global needs.
The NSSEC ES, Dr Iyela, while speaking, reiterated that, NSSEC by law had been mandated to reposition the education sector to a global standard.
Iyela said in so doing, has produced a minimum Standard for the senior secondary education sector, the first of its kind which when implemented, would reposition the sector by equipping the students with the necessary tools, enabling them to compete with their peers globally
He further revealed that the commission had also established a senior secondary education data bank to aid planning and decision making.
He then added that NSSEC in collaboration with google is currently training 6,000 secondary school teachers on artificial intelligence, Nasarawa State alone having sloth of 130 teachers.
He said in line with the Renewed Hope agenda , the commission is also working towards promoting agriculture in Senior secondary schools by reviving school farming system.
According to him, this will provide practical knowledge in farming and also build the interest of the students in agriculture.
He then commended the Governor for his commitment in education and appealed to him to work towards establishing the State Senior Secondary Education Board to enable the state harness any form of intervention from the commission.
