Nasarawa State University, Keffi hosts NUGA preliminary, spends half a million naira on preparations

Ahead of the Nigeria Universities Games slated for March 2022 in Lagos state, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, played host to Zone I.

The host university also boasted of adequate sporting facilities, revealed that so far it has spent over half a million naira.

The Dean, Students Affairs, Associate Professor Abdullahi Madibo, who is also the chairman, sport faculty of the institution in an exclusive interview in his office, added that the universities that comprise zone I, included Benue State University, Federal University of Agriculture all from Makurdi, University of Jos and Plateau State University, Bokkos which constitituted the Zone I including NSUk as the host.

He said “So what we are doing here is the preliminaries, out of these Universities,the vice chancellor have unanimously agreed to host the preliminary games in the NSUK campus.And you know this is not easy,as hosting other universities involved a lot of logistics and fundings.

“So after the preliminaries, the winners will be selected to represent the various universities in various games at Lagos ,where the real NUGA games will be hosted in March,” he said.

Madibo boasted of the capacity of facilities provided by the Vice Chancellor of NSUK, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed, he however stated that inspite of the efforts it will not be true to claim having all the facilities,he noted however that a lot of monies were expended in the purchased of a numbers of equipments and the repairs of the areas needed for the exercise.

He pointed out that the track and field, table tennis, tennis and the basket ball courts were renovated.

“This we feel will be to our benefits as it would have been very shameful that we can not sponsor the games in our Zone I sincerely commend the vice chancellor for the show of generousity knowing how alot of the universities contacted for the hosting reneged,” Madibo posited.

In conclusion, Abdullahi Madibo said so far, Nasarawa State University, Keffi has won in 3 games and that he was optimistic that before the end of the 4 days exercise NSUK will win more.
