Nasarawa State University to confer Honorary Doctorate degree on Senator Al-Makura

Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), is set to confer an Honourary Doctorate degree on Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
This was disclosed when a delegation of the Governing Council, Senate and Management of NSUK, led by the Chairman, Prof Adamu Baikie, represented by Dr Hashimu and Vice Chancellor, Prof. Suleiman Bala Mohammed, paid a courtesy visit to Senator Al-Makura in his office in Jabi, Abuja, Wednesday.
This was contained in a press release signed issued by the Chief Press Secretary to Senator Almakura, Mr Danjuma Joseph.
The delegation said they came to remind Senator Al-Makura about the decision of the Council on his nomination for the conferment of Honorary Doctorate degree, which was earlier scheduled for 2020, but couldn’t hold due to Covid-19.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the institution considered Senator Al-Makura worthy of the award because of his massive transformation of the education sector and in particular NSUK, when he was the State Governor between 2011 to 2019.
The VC said some of the projects executed by the Al-Makura, as the then Visitor to the University, includes road network, hostels and other structures that has made the school compete with other universities in the country.
The VC who disclosed that Vice President, Professor Yemi Osibanjo is expected to be the special guest of honour at the one week long event, also said they are hosting the events to mark 20 years anniversary of the creation of the university.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Al-Makura, who said he is impressed and excited with the gesture, thanked the university authority for finding him worthy of the award.
Senator Al-Makura, a leading aspirant for the office of the National Chairman of APC, said as the then Visitor to NSUK and now Senator, he take special interest in the institution to add value to it.
He assured them of his readiness to partner with NSUK at all times to take it to the Promised Land for the good of the state and the country at large.
