The National Assembly has pledged to support increment of monthly stipend for trainees under the National Directorate of Employment, (NDE) from five to fifty thousand Naira.
Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Labour, Honourable Adebayo Adefarati made the observation at the Budget defence of NDE in the Assembly Complex on Tuesday.
According to him, “The House of Representatives fully supports the empowerment of our youth under the Renewed Hope Initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Ministry of Labour and relevant stakeholders under the supervision of the NDE.
“Our youth should be encouraged and supported to be educated and learn different skills for they to be self employed and avoid youth restiveness.
“But if they are enrolled as beneficiaries, at the beginning of the training, when they receive alert of five thousand naira for the first month, majority of them would abandon the training on tailoring, chef, solar installation amongst other. I support the increment to fifty thousand naira.” He said.
Honourable Adebayo Adefarati commended the NDE under Honourable Silas Ali Agara and his team for the zeal to train youth to be self reliant.
In his remark, Director General of NDE said, “I share the same ideal as observed by the committee for increment of the stipend as I have written to Salaries and Wages Commission, Office of the Secretary to the Federal Government who all approved it and we are expecting the approval of the Minister of Finance to implement it.
Hon Agara calls on stakeholders to fully support the training of youth for they to be good citizens who would continue moving the country to growth and development.
The DG said that within his months in office, he has adopted international best practice by improving staff moral, introduced ICT’s Computer Based Test on staff promotion from across the country and has achieved 76 percent performance of the budget of the NDE.
