National Assembly’ll assist President Tinubu’s plan to reduce unemployment, poverty – Sen. Plang

The Senate will support the quest of President Bola Tinubu to reduce unemployment and poverty amongst Nigerian youth through the Ministry of Labour, National Directorate of Employment, (NDE) and relevant stakeholders.

Senator Diket Plang, chairman of Senate committee on Labour and productivity made the disclosure in his opening remarks at budget defense session in the national assembly complex in Abuja, on Monday.

According to him, “recently, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presented the 2025 appropriation budget to the National Assembly and now committees are debating on it for the growth and development of the country to greater heights.

“This 10th Senate under the leadership of Senate President, Dr Godswill Obot Akpabio will not relent in delivering representation to the good people of Nigeria through empowerment, skills development and reduction of poverty respectively,” he said.

Senator Plang said the committee will be more active through oversight to ministries, department and agencies to have higher yield.

The Committee chairman said the committee will also go on oversight to organized private sector to avoid exploitation of the labour force, enhance and ensure safe and not harzardous working environment.

Senator Plang stressed the policies of this administration which is for the people to soon reap dividend of democracy, to complement national growth.

In his remarks, the Minister of Labour, Alhaji Mohammed Maigari Dingyari said, “For the Ministry to achieve the mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we have to benefit from the intervention of this committee for the attainment of the good objectives.

In an interview with journalists, Director General of National Directorate of Employment, (NDE), Silas Agara said that, President Tinubu’s job creation initiative falls on the Ministry of Labour and its stakeholders to empower half a million youth yearly, to achieve the goal, skills acquisition centers across the country have to be revived as they have been obsolete and decaying.
