The Deputy Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Cross River State Chapter, Comrade Ngban Basil Ngban, has collaborated with security agencies to organize a summit aimed at educating and inspiring young people towards sustainable development and community security.
The event, themed ‘Empowering Youth for Community Security and Sustainable Development’, was held in Alok, Ikom Local Government Area, and brought together security officials, traditional leaders, and youth representatives from all 18 Local Government Areas of the state.
In his address, Comrade Ngban expressed concern over the frequent exploitation of youths in communal conflicts. He urged traditional leaders to play an active role in discouraging such negative influences within their communities. He emphasized that young people are essential drivers of national progress and must channel their energy towards social and economic transformation.
He further highlighted the significance of youth contributions in fostering peace and stability, stressing the need for collective efforts to support the youth-oriented policies of Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu.
Speaking on behalf of the acting Clan Head of Nnam, His Royal Highness Chief Ashang Ferdinand Ekpangdo encouraged youths to see the nation’s high unemployment rate as a motivation to develop innovative solutions that would make them indispensable to society, rather than engaging in social vices.

The summit underscored the importance of youth involvement in economic growth and sustainable development while advising against destructive behaviors such as cultism, substance abuse, and community conflicts.
This initiative reflects a growing commitment by the NYCN and security agencies to promote peace and stability while empowering young people to become agents of positive change in their communities.
