NBTE commences re – accreditation of programmes in Federal Poly, Nasarawa

National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has commenced a weeklong accreditation and re-accreditation of programmes exercise at the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, in Nasarawa state to improve education.
Mr Rufai Ibrahim, Leader of the NBTE Delegation confirmed the development to newsmen at the institution in Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.
Ibrahim who said the team commenced the accreditation and re-accreditation exercise on Monday said about 30 programmes were penned down for the weeklong exercise expected to conclude on Friday.
“The exercise is the steps we take as part of quality assurance to ensure that students get the best education that they deserve,” he said.
He explained that NBTE team divided into two teams to effectively carry out the exercise, with the first team commenced on Monday and concluded on Tuesday and the second team scheduled to start on on Thursday and conclude on Friday respectively.
“The exercise will cover Mass Communication, Engineering programmes such as civil and mechanical engineering among others,” he said.
He then applauded the management of the institution for the heartwarming reception granted his team and also commended the management for the infrastructural development of the institution.
“We really appreciate the management for the warm reception granted us. So after this exercise we will go back to NBTE and analyze our reports. Whatever it is, we will get back to the institution,” he added.
Also speaking, Hajiya Safina Sanusi-Sabo, Acting Director, Information and Public Unit of the institution confirmed the ongoing accreditation and re-accreditation exercise in the institution, adding that it has gone smoothly so far.
She explained that the exercise is basically done every five years to make sure programmes offered in different polytechnics are up to standard.
“This is because the NBTE has its standards and this exercise is like a checkmate on the polytechnics offering the programmes to see if they are up to standard.
“This exercise is a combination of re-accreditation of already existing programmes after five years and accreditation proper for newly introduced programmes in the last two years, usually
full accreditation is done after two years of interim accreditation,” she said.
Sanusi-Sabo listed new programmes for accreditation to include Higher National Diploma (HND) Mass Communication, HND Public Administration.
“Some of those for re-accreditation are National Diploma (ND) in Mass Communication, ND in Public Administration, HND and ND in Library Science, ND in Computer Science, HND and ND in Business Administration and ND and HND in Architectural Technology among others,” she said.
She applauded visionary leadership of the Rector, Alhaji Abdullahi Ahmed by ensuring that all programmes offered in the institution met acceptable standard for the benefit of the students of the institution.
