NDE pledges to boost skills development, empowerment in South-South
The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has reaffirmed its commitment to scaling up skills development and empowerment programs in the South-South geographical zone, aiming to meet its national quota under the NDE empowerment scheme.
This assurance was made by the Director General of NDE, Dr. Silas Ali Agara, during a courtesy visit by the Management of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC), led by the managing Director Ms. Usoro Akpabio, at his office in Abuja on Wednesday.
Dr. Agara pledged to collaborate closely with the SSDC to prioritize applicants from the region, particularly widows and orphans, to address the shortfall in the NDE skills development program quota.
He lamented that youths from the region often show low interest in registering on the NDE portal when such programs are launched, stating that NDE can only work with those who indicate interest.
The NDE DG assured that priority would be given to applicants from the region, focusing on providing social security and livelihoods.
He lauded the SSDC management for seeking to partner with NDE on job creation and empowerment, noting that the mission aligns with NDE’s objectives.
Dr. Agara congratulated the new SSDC management team on their appointment and urged them to develop a blueprint emphasizing the region’s peculiar development needs.

Earlier, Ms. Usoro Akpabio pledged to partner with NDE to create jobs for the people of the region, urging NDE to designate the SSDC as the implementation hub for NDE skills acquisition and empowerment trainings in the region.
She emphasized the commission’s focus on investing in agriculture and other viable sectors to empower the region’s population.
The South-South Development Commission (SSDC) is a regional development agency established by the Federal Government to promote economic growth and development in the South-South region of Nigeria.
