New priests tasked to guard against defilement as Diocese on the Niger ordains 63 in two weeks

Newly ordained priests of Diocese on the Niger, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion has been charged to guard against the defilement of their anointing.

The Diocese had ordained 63 within two weeks. A fortnight ago it ordained 33 at All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha and the latest 30 ordained at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity.

Delivering a sermon during the ordination of the second batch of the priests at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Odoakpu, Onitsha, Ven. Chinedu Nnakwue asked them to guard against defiling their anointing.

Preaching on the theme: “Our Final Charge as We Release You,” Ven. Nnakwue reminded the ordinands that identity was always revealed in moments of pressure, therefore warning them never to compromise their calling.

Emphasizing holiness, character, and integrity as the marks of true ministry, he told them: “Don’t be crooked in the way you do things”.

The Ven had while reminding the ministers that: “You are the voice of God on earth, live what you preach”, had urged their wives to uphold modesty.

The Diocesan, the Rt Rev Dr Owen Nwokolo, had in the course of the ordination subjected the candidates to formal oath taking during which time they pledged their allegiance to God, the Church and to the Diocesan.

Shortly after the ordination, the bishop presented the new ministers to the congregation.

Over 6,000 people from different parts of the state and beyond attended the ceremony.
