Newly installed traditional rulers of Amawbia, Umuerum receive certificate of recognition

Anambra State Government has presented certificates of recognition to Traditional Rulers of Amawbia and Umuerum communities.
The Governer, Chief Willie Obiano, who made the presentations at Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, urged the traditional rulers to use their certificates as instrument of unity, to enthrone sustainable development in their communities and the State at large.
The ceremony was held with strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols.
While Igwe Chinyelu Nwora Molokwu was recognised as traditional ruler of Amawbia, Igwe Christopher Ndibe was recognised as the traditional ruler of Umuerum.
He admonished them that the certificates should not be used to cause confusion among their community members but as a rallying point.
Governer Obiano added that they should incorporate youth representatives as cabinet members to be abreast of youth activities in their various communities, especially as it concerned cult activities and other social vices.
The Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Local Government Affairs, Chief Greg Obi said that Governer Obiano emphasised the importance of traditional institutions as they were central to maintaining good administration at the grassroots.
The Commissioner pointed out that even though election of President’s-General and traditional rulers still stand suspended in the State, the two certificates were already signed by the Governor before the announcement.
Chief Obi added that recognising more traditional rulers would enhance economic development at the grassroots.
In a speech on behalf of traditional institution in the State, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe explained that traditional rulers were at the centre of peace in their various communities.
The Onitsha Monarch, then, called on the Presidents-General of the two communities to work harmoniously with their Igwes, urging them to attend meetings usually hosted at the Local Government, Zonal and State Council levels.
Igwe Molokwu and Igwe Ndibe thanked the Governor for approving their emergence, promising to use their offices to positively impact on their communities.
Principal Secretary to Governor, Sir. Willie Nwokoye an indigene of Amawbia said that the late father of the new traditional ruler of Amawbia was to be the Igwe of the community in 1977, but was halted due to internal controversies.
“Divine providence is at play here. It is heart-warming that 42 years after, a new traditional ruler has been recognised in Amawbia.”
He assured that Amawbia people would rally round Okpaligwe, even as he encouraged him to carry everyone along so as to excel.
Also present at the presentation are Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Uchenna Okafor, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Primus Odili, Head of Service, Barrister Harry Udu and the Traditional rulers led by their Chairman, Igwe Achebe attended the event.
