Halal Children Homes, a Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) has sought for the enrolment of vulnerable children into formal education.
This, the organisation said would reduce the number of out-of-school children in the country.
At a sensitisation walk in Abuja, the President of Halal Children’s Home, Ramatu Abubakar, said the sensitisation programme was aimed at appealing to well-meaning individuals not to relent in supporting orphans and other less-privileged children.
Abubakar explained that the vision of the groups was to build a society where every child, regardless of background, could be productive.
She called on corporate organisations and wealthy Nigerians to complement government efforts by identifying orphans within their communities and extending assistance to them.
” The insecurity we are experiencing are children who don’t have parents to guide them,.
” We all know one or two people who are orphans and the children who are not with their parents, when we open our homes to them, and we give them the proper upbringing, we safeguard our communities and our society and we will build a greater nation,” she said.
In her contribution, the Halal Home supervisor, Mrs Zainab Bassa, urged other well meaning Nigerians to encourage organisations supporting the government to foster security by given them the morale support to be better people.
Also addressing participants, Mallam Abu-Jabir Abdullahi emphasised the importance of fostering children through religiously approved and legally recognised procedures, noting that such acts attract spiritual blessings.
Abdullahi stressed that, “when we look at the out-of-school children that roam the street, and the impoverished children around, it is something that we should look into.
“We have been advocating for that, adopt someone, the person doesn’t need to be in your house.
“There are places like Halal home where you can key in, and ask for accommodations for the child if they do, then you pay for the child’s school fees.”
Meanwhile, free medical checks were offered to members of the public in the vicinity as part of the outreach activities following the walk.
