The Vanguard Against Drug Abuse (VGADA) a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has solicited the support of the Media on its ongoing campaign against illicit drug use in Government Secondary Schools in the FCT.
Dr Hope Abraham made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja.
Abraham said there was the need for the media to form a synergy with the group and its partners in the efforts at curbing the menace.
“The organisation has been curtailing the increasing menace of drug abuse among youths and other Nigerians in recent times.
“The public needs to understand that they also need to support this fight against drug abuse so as to have a drug free territory.
“That is the more reason the media is important and without strong partnership of the media, tackling drug abuse will not yield the desire results’’, Abraham said.
He also said the NGO was looking forward to creating a rehabilitation centres that would help the affected persons return back to their normal lives.
NAN reports that the NGO has earmarked ten of the schools to form part of the core campaign outlets with the establishment of anti-drugs clubs. (NAN)
