NGO spends N90m to drill boreholes, builds classrooms in Nasarawa

Chuga and Friends Foundation (CFF), a charitable and non political NGO based in Nasarawa State, says it has spent N90 million to drill 46 motorised boreholes across communities from 2017 to date to improve access to potable water in the state.

Dr. Samson Chuga, the Chief Executive Officer of the NGO and Vice Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Nasarawa state, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the activities of the foundation in Akwanga on Friday.

He also said that the foundation had provided educational facilities, building blocks of class rooms in some rural communities.

Chuga, who is also the Minister in-Charge of United English Baptist Church, Akwanga said the foundation exist to create, sustain and facilitate relationship, locally and internationally with a view to providing water projects, educational health and medical services to impact lives and communities.

“The Chuga and Friends Foundation ( CFF) is a charitable and non political organisation which birthed in 2017 with focus to provide water for rural communities that don’t have access to potable water due to lack of government presence.

“It is an off short of partner’s for Water, USA. From 2017 to date, we have executed 46 boreholes across Nasarawa State in which we spent a total of N90 million to provide water to communities among other logistics.

“We have provided 2 boreholes in Obi LGA, about 7 in Nassarawa Eggon, 14 in Akwanga, Karu and so many others places,” he said.

“Our aims and objectives also include to propagate the Gospel of Jesus Christ through Evangelism, organising seminars, workshops and in Radio, Television and other media of communication.

“To preach peace and to promote peaceful co-existence in our society, to provide free medical assistance to rural communities by providing free drugs, treatments, and establishment of Health Care Centres among others,” he said.

He also said that the foundation from March to date, has received about 28 applications from various communities seeking for clean water from them.

“Out of the 28 applications, possibly we will have 18 or 20 communities that the foundation will drill boreholes for them because not every community that applied will qualify to get,” he said.

The NGO chief executive officer also disclosed that it has disbursed about N9million to rural women to improve their socio economic status to enable them contribute positively to the development of the state.

He assured that the foundation would sustain the project by increasing provision of more water and empowerment programmes in order to improve the lives of communities positively across Nasarawa State.

Earlier speaking to newsmen on inspection, Ibrahim Sule, a Village Head of Buku Community in Akwanga, one of the beneficiary communities said that his community with the population of 25, 000 rely on the donated boreholes as their only source of clean water.

The Village Head, while thanking the foundation for all it has done for the benefits of humanity, called on other NGOs and spirited individuals to emulate the foundation.
