Members of House of Representatives Committee on Power have maintained that the federal government is very determined to address power generation and distributions in the country.
This was disclosed in Calabar when that committee visited the Calabar Power Generation Company Ltd, a subsidiary of Niger Delta Power Holding firm as part of their constitutional responsibilities and oversight functions.
Chairman of the House Committee, Victor Nwokolo who represent Ika South/Ika North Federal Constituency of Delta State in the House of Representatives, said that President Bola Tinubu views power issues in the country as very critical.
He said it is the reason the minister of power and House committee on power are busy touring power infrastructures around the country to address likely challenges impeding power supplies.
“Federal government places high premium on power availability to all Nigerians. This s why government is determined to fix power problems.
“You should know that issue of power has lots of effects on the nation. By the time we’re able to fix it we would have addressed almost half of national problems.
“Government has noted that Nigerians are insisting on availability if power before they will listen to increase in electricity tariffs,” he said.
Nwokolo cautioned vandals against destruction of power infrastructures in the country as this affect power.
Managing director of the Calabar Power Generation Company, Chiedu Ugbo said out of the ten power plants, it is the Calabar facility that has steady gas supply which has enabled its steady generation of power in the last 15 years.
He said out of the five power turbines with overall site capacity of 625, two were yet undergoing turnaround maintenance.
