Nigeria government to review Keffi -Nasarawa road contract, sets to inaugurate multi-billion naira Nasarawa-Loko highway

The Federal Government said arrangements have been concluded
to inaugurate the multi-billion naira Nasarawa-Loko road and it would
be opened to traffic immediately.

While on a Keffi -Nasarawa road contract it said it will be reviewed with the aim of re-awarding it, the Minister of Works said the Keffi-Makurdi road is expected to be completed by the end of April.

Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji-Fashola, disclosed
this shortly after he inspected the completion of the road project in
Oweto area of Nassarawa local government area of the state.

Our correspondent reports that the FG had during it visit on January 12,
2023 to assess the level of work done on the project, gave the
contractors handling the project two months to complete it.

It would be recalled further that the 74-kilometre Nasarawa Loko road
connecting Nasarawa and Benue states is being handled by three
companies and when completed would reduce the travel hours of
commuters.

Our correspondent also reports that CGC is handling the 42.2km portion
of the road at the cost of N12,966,178,173.79; GITTO company handles the 10.8km at the cost of N8,870,450,580.51, while RCC handles 21.3km at the cost of N8,167,099,483.07, bringing the total cost of the road
project to N30,003,728,237.40.

The road project is another intervention of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in infrastructure development.

During an inspection visit by the minister explained that the road project which has been successfully completed, will be commissioned the end of the present administration.

Mr. Raji-Fashola, who expressed satisfaction with the commitment of
the contractors who he said have delivered quality project that will stand the test of time, also disclosed that the second phase of Makurdi-Ninth mile has been awarded.

Another ongoing road project that is also expected to be completed before the end of President Buhari’s administration is the Lagos-Ibadan express way while that of Abuja-Kaduna Kano might not be
completed due to some challenges which include encroachment on the
right of way, security challenges as well as the ongoing Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline project.

State Controller, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Engineer Daikwo Idaho and the contractors appreciated the effort of the federal government for ensuring the timely completion of the Nasarawa-Loko
road.
