Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, former Governor of Nasarawa State and Chairman of Universal Basic Education Board, (UBEC) has joined millions of Nigerians in mourning the death of Nigeria’s former President and national icon, Muhammadu Buhari, whose passing took on Sunday 13 July 2025.
He made the statement in his condolence message, that the late former President as a nationalist, an elder statesman, and a silent philanthropist, whose life of service left a profound impact on Nigeria’s socio-political landscape.
According to him, “The former President was a fine General, a disciplined leader, and a man of strong convictions. His legacy spans decades, from serving as Head of State (1983–1985) to returning as Nigeria’s democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023.
“Throughout his leadership, he remained committed to national security, anti-corruption, and economic recovery efforts, agricultural revolution, earning both respect and criticism, but always standing firm in his vision for a better Nigeria.
“I commend President Buhari’s dedication to nation-building, particularly his recognition and empowerment of talented Nigerians across the World; an effort Senator Al-makura described as “strategic to harnessing the potential of Nigeria’s global intellect for domestic progress.” he said.
The political ally of Buhari acknowledged that former President Buhari’s tenure was marked by national patriotism, integrity, and lifelong service to Nigeria.
Senator Al-Makura, as one of the members of Buhari’s political Dynasty, the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), pledged total commitment and dedication to continue with the legacy of the late President, ‘Baba Buhari Mai Gaskiya’ as he was fondly called.
Senator Al-Makura extends his heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR and all Nigerians mourning this national loss.
“May Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings, accept his service, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin,” .
