Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency needs support of National Assembly to function effectively – DG Umar

Umar Ibrahim Mohammed, Director General and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, (NIHSA), needs full support of both chambers of the National Assembly for it to continue functioning effectively.

He made the statement after he defended the proposed budget of 3,050 billion Naira for 2025 appropriation and fiscal year at the Senate Committee on Water Resources and Sanitation at the Assembly Complex on Thursday.

According to him, “Both Chambers of the National Assembly should continue supporting NIHSA in its effort towards having excellent hydrological policy and implementation for growth and development of the country.

“NASS has distinguished Senators and the House of Representatives have Right Honourable members who mean well for the country.

“We are soliciting for continuing support to function as stakeholders in national, regional, state, local areas and communities for constituency issues that has to do with hydrological matters according to international best practice.” He said.

The DG calls on Nigerians to avoid any act that will tamper with the hydrological system for the betterment of the country.

In his remark, deputy chairman of the Committee, Senator Ken Eze who led members of the committee said that Nigerians are watching activities of the 10th Senate.

He said, “The Senate wouldn’t relent in meticulously scrutinizing the budget performance of previous year before approving proposed budget of the current fiscal year.

“Any Ministry, Department or Agency that didn’t justify 2024 budget will have zero allocation this year,” he said.
