One of Nigeria’s greatest footballers, Ismaila Mabo has died.

Mabo played for the famous Mighty Jets Football club of Jos and the national team, then the Green Eagles for many years.

According to the Facebook timeline of Bashir Ibrahim Idris, Editor-in-Chief of Hausa Service of Radio France International, Mabo died Monday morning, March 13, 2023 in Jos, Plateau State capital.

Bashir is a close associate of Mabo having worked in Jos as a journalist with The Nigerian Standard newspaper covering sports for many years.

“May Allah forgive Coach Ismaila Mabo, former Super Falcons chief coach who died this morning in Jos”, Bashir simply wrote.

Born on 15 July 1944, Mabo was the head coach of the Falcons coach at the FIFA 1999 Women’s World Cup, 2000 Summer Olympics and 2004 Summer Olympics. He led Nigeria to the quarter-finals of the World Cup, the team’s best ever result. (With agency report)
