The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh, has issued a stark warning about the dire situation facing many Nigerians, describing widespread suffering from hunger, poverty and insecurity as pushing many to their breaking point.

Speaking at the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN)’s 2025 plenary meeting, themed “Jubilee of Hope: A light for a better Nigeria,” Archbishop Okoh urged a renewed focus on faith and improved relationships as a path towards National healing.

The CBCN meeting also heard from Abuja’s Catholic Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama, who called for a rejection of oppression, corruption, and social injustice.

Archbishop Kaigama stressed the shared responsibility of both leaders and citizens in building a new Nigeria based on righteousness, justice, and love, urging leaders across all sectors to reject ill-gotten wealth and prioritize the welfare of the people.

He warned against the dangers of materialism, arrogance, and abuse of power, calling for an end to superficial displays of religiosity and inter-religious rivalry.

Archbishop Kaigama emphasized that true faith is measured not by outward displays but by actions reflecting honesty, love, and justice.
