Nigerian Immigration boss warns corrupt, adamant officers, says heavy sanctions awaits them

Officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) bent on exhibiting corrupt tendencies in the discharge of their duties have been warned to disengage from same or await heavy sanctions.
Muhammad Babandede, the Comptroller General, Nigerian Immigration Service (CGIS) issued the warning Thursday in a sensitisation programme organised for the officers in Federal Secretariat Bauchi.
Represented by the Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) Zone C Bauchi, Tijani Lawan Ingawa, the immigration boss said that those adamant officers defiant to caution will be punished duely.
He said, “The Comptroller General has mounted campaign on how to tackle corruption even before now and we as his lieutenant by the side are doing our best to make sure we have sensitised officers and men, those that are Adamant, we will dish them out and let them face the wrath of the law.

“Nigeria Immigration service provides specialised services to Nigerians and non-Nigerians wishing to traverse, visit or be domiciled in Nigeria; such services are expected to be provided with all decorum they deserve,
Also, lending voice on the havoc of corruption in the system, the Deputy Comptroller General CPP Obua called on the officers to embrace high level of Intergrity in the discharge of their duties.
He added that any corrupt tendencies exhibited by the officers might scare aware foreigners wanting to enter the country for different purposes.
He added that two key things in International travels they are paying close attention to currently is citizenship intergrity and document Intergrity which guarantees the authenticity of intending travelers and that of the documents they present.
He enjoined people to understand with them as new passport is no longer issued within 72 hours but 6 weeks and a minimum of 3 weeks for renewal to enable them reliably ascertain the genuiness of all documents.
