Nigerian Navy has flagged off a free medical outreach tagged “Rhapsody” to the people of Bakassi Local Government Area in Cross River State.
The event held at Ine Utang in the Dayspring fishing settlement on Wednesday December 6, 2023, included distribution of food items.
This was organized by the Nigerian Navy Ship Victory in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Calabar.
The leader of the team, Commander Vincent Gbaranwi of NNS Victory was accompanied by the Commander of Nigeria Navy Reference Hospital in Calabar, Capt Dominica Adebayo and other officers, Ratings and civilian staff of both units to the host community.
The commander said the exercise was part of the events to mark the navy end of year activities in Calabar area.
He disclosed that it was also done to improve the relationship between the Navy and the good people of the state.
Commodore Gbaranwi said they were touched by the plights of the Nigerians living in that community, adding that they are exposed to lots of health dangers and militancy issues.

“From our various assessments and reports, there are compelling issues to deal with in this community, including militancy, hunger and diseases.
“Fortunately, our hierarchy having noted the dire situation directed that we should intervene in this community. We’ll continue to do more to see possibility of alleviating their plights.
“Our intervention is also to deepen the civilian-military relationship under our corporate social responsibility in our area of command.
“We’ve noted that there is no school, no health facility, no security post. The need for medical attention is topmost.
During the event, free medical consultations such as blood checks, diabetes screening, eye test, dental check and Malarial treatment were conducted.
Others were health talk on hypertension and distribution of medications and mosquito nets amongst other medical consumables.
