Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation clocks 62 on October 1, 2022.
The six Decades Journey picked up soon after the nation gained independence from Britain in 1960.
This year’s celebration comes less than a month of Queen Elizabeth the 2nds death.
The Great queen of our time Visited Nigeria during independence in view of its status as a former colony, a territory endowed with both human and material resources and a former colony that provided the largest military force that aided Britain to Fight Against its enemies during the first and second world wars.
Despite its socio-economic challenges, Nigeria still remains the giant of Africa by all standards. Politically, this nation has enjoyed 23 years of uninterrupted democracy unlike many of its contemporaries whose leaders have forcefully changed the constitution to remain in power.
For instance, in the Agricultural sector, the present government has popularized farming by encouraging the establishment of more produce markets and associations for various crops as well as motivating retired civil servants and generals to embark on big time farming both for cash and food crop production to enable the country achieve food security and rely less on the oil sector for it’s revenue.
On the Issue of insecurity, Nigeria is winning its war against various forms of criminality including Human trafficking, illicit drug peddling, petroleum product theft, importation of adulterated products, Kidnapping and banditry, thanks to the commitment of the security operatives and agencies of government who have resolved to end this criminality in order to allow democracy to thrive
Today, Nigerian Professionals including Medical Doctors,Nurses, Academicians and other scientists are sought for in Europe and America and this attests to the fact that this country called Nigeria has enough intellectual potentials to remain great not only in Africa but globally. For the people of bauchi state, the 62 years independence anniversary brings along with it good tidings. This is so because Despite the Insurgency that has ravaged most states in the North East, Bauchi State remains the most peaceful in the region.
As we celebrate the independence anniversary it is necessary that the citizens would pause for a while to reflect on the journey so far and the compelling need to renew their faith in the Nigerian state as well as do the need full towards sustaining the legacies of our heroes past who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the country.
There is also the need for leaders in corridors of power to be accountable, ensure prudence in management of the nation”s resources for the overall well-being of the people.
On the other hand Nigerians irrespective of their status have a civic duty by demonstrating practical patriotism and nationalism in all their all their dealings for a prosperous ,united and stable nation for the present and yet unborn generation.
