Nkwelle-Ezunaka People Now Set To Produce New Traditional Ruler

Nkwelle-Ezunaka Community in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State are now ready to produce a new Monarch after the demise of Igwe Raphael Nwakoby about twenty-two years ago.

The President- General Ogbuefi Willy Okafor made this known to journalists who had gathered at his residence, during this year’s new yam festival.

The Community which produced a Notable Novelist in the name of Cyprian Ekwensi has been living without a traditional ruler like other neighbouring towns.

However, the indigenes of the Community are now ever determined to elect a new Monarch for the town.

It would be recalled that several attempts to reach an accord on how to produce a Monarch in the past had often hit the rock, but he has promised to conduct an election for the position of a new traditional ruler.

Ogbuefi Okafor stated that process for the election of a new ruler has begun as three indigenes have so far indicated interest by paying the necessary fees for forms regarding their aspiration.

According to him, “the process of producing a traditional ruler for Nkwelle-Ezunaka has commenced as three indigenes have so far payed for the forms.

“A screening committee for that purpose is already in place. There are indices to be used as a traditional ruler must be considered to be above board, not an ex-convict and must be of impeccable character among others.”

It was, however, gathered that the election of a new Monarch will take place before the end of the year.

Earlier several masquerades with their supporters who visited the President-General were presented with yams and live fowls. While some received goats and yams depending on the category of such masquerades.

Children, adults and well wishers were all present to merry with the community political head.
