NSHIA embarks on advocacy in LGAs, target registration of 500,000 citizens

On advocacy mission across the 13 local government areas of Nasarawa State, the management of the Nasarawa State Health Insurance Agency, NSHIA led by the Executive Secretary, Dr Yahaya Ubam visited Karu, Kokona and Keffi LGAs to create awareness and sensitization about the importance of the scheme.

Dr Yahaya Ubam at the Esu Karu palace on Wednesday stressed the benefits of securing registration, which he said both government workers(formal) and non government staff (informal) can register at a wished away cost per annum.

According to him, “the government and governor Nasarawa State, Engineer Abdullahi Sule in his magnamity has considered having citizens of the state apart from civil servants to enjoy health care at a subsidized cost.

“Started four years ago, we are here to create more awareness to our citizens of the benefits attached to registered members of the public and we are going round traditional rulers’ palaces in the state who are the custodian of the culture of the people to advocate and sensitize them on need to have their people enroll in the scheme.

“Already we have registered over 200, 000people who have since benefited from the program and we are targeting the registration of not less than 500,000 persons in the next two years.” He said.

Explaining further, Dr Ubam said for government workers 3% is normally deducted from their salary and government pay the remaining 7% as counterpart funding, while for non government individuals, they are to pay Twelve Thousand Naira (#12,000) each year which enable them enjoy health services in any hospital of their choice.

Some registered beneficiaries who attested to the importance of the scheme said the program is a laudable one, thanking the state governor for the care initiative especially in the health sector.

Speaking, Chief Tanko Zaga the Dakachin Jiwape and deputy vice president NULGE said he registered along with his wife and one of his child and that he has benefited immensely from the scheme each time any time any of them registered, get ill.

“I go to the hospital without paying a Kobo except for transportation and the drugs that I get are very effective ones .By this Sensitization I will make strong advocacy to members of my community to be registered.” He said.

Responding on behalf of the Esu Karu, Pharmacy Luka Baba Panya, the Hakimi Karu, Chief Danladi Cheshi Audu thank the executive governor of the state through the executive secretary of the Nasarawa State Health Insurance Agency for the reawakening and Sensitization of the good people of Karu.

He stated that they will not renege in carrying out the sensitization campaign to all the villages in order to persuade citizens on the need to secure registration.
