The newly inaugurated National President of Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK) Alumni Association Worldwide, Mr Nuhu Agya has underscored the need to build a solid foundation to tackle the decay in the education sector.

Agya said this while speaking with journalists shortly after his inauguration in Lafia, the State Capital.

He attributed the decay in the nation’s institutions and the trend of examination malpractices across schools to the faulty foundation in nursery, primary, and secondary schools respectively.

He described examination malpractices across the nation’s institutions as worrisome, noting that the nation-building and future leaders would be at stake if nothing were done to curtail the trend.

“This is a foundational issue, and the decay in education is a nationwide challenge. If you don’t tackle it we can’t build a nation with this faulty foundation in our educational system.

“Every student at the level of nursery, primary, and secondary school has understood the concept of examination malpractice. How can we produce people who will build the nation with this type of orientation and attitude,” he queried.

He said he would embark on a sensitisation programme to schools where pupils, children, and, individuals would be educated on the need to understand the foundational basis of education.

“We need to go back to the family circle to ensure that every family instills into their children the morality of doing the right thing.

“Once we do that, we must go back and rebuild primary and secondary schools, employ capable hands to ensure that the foundation is very strong. Once the child has a solid foundation, he will be able to thrive.

Agya commended Governor Abdullahi Sule’s unwavering support for the education sector, particularly Nasarawa State University, noting that the governor’s leadership has been instrumental in shaping the future of the university.

Agya while thanking the NSUK Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sa’adatu Liman for her motherly role and advice, pledged to work tirelessly to promote the interest of the Association and foster a sense of community among members.

Speaking at the event, Gov Abdullahi Sule who was represented by the Head of Civil Service, Abigail Waya congratulated the new executive members and urged them to sustain support for one another and contribute their quota to the Alma Mata.

In his presentation on Securing the Future: Trust Fund as a Pillar for Alumni Legacy Through Finance, Entrepreneurial Activities and Leadership Continuity, Dr Vincent Paul, Dept of Entrepreneurship Studies, NSUK, emphasised the importance of the trust fund.
