NYSC commissions north-central enterpreneurship centre at Keffi orientation camp

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has commissioned its North Central States Skills Acquisition and Enterpreneurship Development (SAED) Center at Magaji Dan Yamusa NYSC orientation camp in Keffi, Nasarawa State.

The Director General, Major General Shuiabu Ibrahim on Monday, said the project was in line with one of the cardinal point of his policy thrust ,which is to reinvigorate the NYSC ventures and skill acquisition and Enterpreneurship Development programme, in line with the NYSC Act for greater impact.

He said “both programmes are very vital especially in light of the prevailing economic realities, while the Skill Acquisition and Enterpreneurship Development is geared towards empowering corps members, for self employment and wealth creation.

“The NYSC ventures ,comprising agro-based and other businesses,are meant to play multiple purpose of providing part of our kit items and other essential s for the conduct of orientation course in addition to serving as a source of revenue and training grounds for corps members.

General Shuiabu Ibrahim further states that the priority attention for the development of the ventures was to particularly and in line with the Federal Government policies on food security and diversification of economy through optimization of the nation’s potentials in non oil sector.

He revealed that same feat were achieved by concerted effort to revitalized the ventures ,by restoring NYSC water factor and bakery located at Kubwa, FCT, revamping the NYSC Garment factories at Minna, Niger state and at Mgbakwu, Anambra State.

Others he said includes the enhancement of operation of NYSC farm settlement across the country,to mentioned but a few among six others as itemized.

He added that “I am pleased to inform this gathering that through our sustained focus on revamping the NYSC ventures is bearing impressive results over N1billion generated through these sources was paid into the federal government coffers from the year 2020 to 2021.

“This is the first in the history of NYSC, remitting revenue to the Federal Government,an achievement that has earned is commendations from higher authorities,in kuding the National Assembly”, he concluded.

On his part, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state while inaugurating the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) North Central Skills Acquisition center, the scheme’s bakery, garment and table water factories in the state.

Governor Sule lauded the location of the facility in Nasarawa state and added that the siting of the facility once operational will offer entrepreneurial skills for corps members posted to the state and create jobs for residents living within the locality.

“You are thanking me for being here but I strongly believe that I should thank you first and foremost for inviting me to come and witness something like this.

“I also want to thank the NYSC as a whole for siting such a project right here in Nasarawa state. Indeed you had several options but you selected Nasarawa state,” he said.

Abdullahi Adamu, Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Ambassador Tukur Buratai, Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazzau (Rtd) former minister of Interior, Prof. Sulaiman Bala-Mohammed, Vice Chancellor Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK), Alhaji Chindo Yamusa III, Emir of Keffi among others.
