NYSC DG urges Corps members to be security conscious always

The Director General, National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC), Major-General Shuiabu Ibrahim has handed a stern warning to Corps Member of Batch A to be security conscious at all times.
He made this statement on Tuesday during the Terminal parade and closing ceremony for 2022 orientation course in the Dan Yamusa NYSC camp in Keffi in Nasarawa State.
Represented by the NYSC state coordinator, Abdullahi Jikamshi, Majo- General Ibrahim, assured the corps members that a sustained liaison with security agencies as well as other relevant stakeholders with the view of not only ensuring their safety, but making essential provisions that will enable them have fulfilling service year have been fashioned.
He also warned the corps members against social vices such as drug abuses and trafficking, cyber crime and advanced-fee-fraud saying the act will not be condoned.
“Let me reiterate our warning against unauthorized journeys and night trips in order to minimize the risk of road traffic accident.
“You are expected to always cut short your trips from six o’clock in the evening and pass the night at military barracks or any location officially designated as safe,” he said.
The DG further told the 1503 corps members that they should integrate into their host communities through learning of their languages and cultures.
He added that the desire to make the SAED programme more impactful, informed the advocacy for the establishment of the National Youth Service Corps Trust Fund.
Major-General Ibrahim, however, appreciated the House of Representatives and by extension, the entire National Assembly for the progress made so far on legislative process in the Bill for the establishment of the Trust Fund, which according to him, has not only scaled through a second reading, but also been subjected to public hearing.
He used the occasion to appeal to corps employers to accept corps members that are posted to them and also accord priority to their welfare, provide the enabling environment for them to develop their potentials calling on the state and local government authorities, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to give the corps members, the necessary encouragement, especially through support for their community development services initiative.
