A former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party Presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi announced he donated over N1.5 billion to charitable causes in 2024.
Speaking during a visit to the Anglican Bishop of Nnewi, Rt. Rev. Ndubisi Obi, Mr. Obi, emphasized that the funds supported education, healthcare, and empowerment programs across various initiatives.
Mr. Obi cited specific donations, including N10 million each to Bishop Ephraim Ikeakor for the College of Nursing Sciences in Amichi and Bishop Ndubisi Obi for projects at ADON College of Health Technology in Nnewi.
The former Governor emphasized that this philanthropy, which he’s practiced throughout his life, both before and during his political career, stems from a deep-seated commitment to improving the lives of others, not from a desire for political gain.
He highlighted his involvement in Haiti’s post-earthquake relief efforts as an example of his long-standing charitable work.
Mr. Obi’s recent visit to facilities in Nnewi, including a rehabilitation center and a school for children with special needs, further solidified his commitment, inspired by the Bishop’s dedication to serving the vulnerable.
The Labour Party chieftain dismissed suggestions that his generosity is a political strategy, stating it’s a moral and spiritual obligation.
“As long as God provides me with the resources, I will continue to contribute to worthy causes,” he affirmed.
