Igwe Chidubem Iweka III, the Traditional Ruler of Obosi, has inaugurated a 16-member committee to oversee the construction of a new N700 million central palace.
The project, expected to be completed within 24 months, aims to provide a befitting residence for future Obosi monarchs.
The inauguration ceremony, held at Igwe Iweka’s palace, marked a significant milestone for the community. Igwe Iweka expressed his joy at the prospect of a modern palace, praying for peace and the project’s success.
Chimezie Obi (Esq), President General of the Obosi Development Union (ODU), highlighted the historical significance of the project, noting that past Obosi kings lacked palaces commensurate with their status. The need for a modern central palace, reflecting the community’s growth and aspirations, spurred the fundraising initiative.
The committee, chaired by Mr. Eric Anyamene with Obi as secretary, is tasked with raising and managing funds for the palace and its accompanying Iba-Adike (likely a sacred structure or building). Anyamene pledged transparency and accountability, promising monthly financial updates.
The palace and Iba-Adike will be constructed on a historically significant site where the five villages of Obosi intersect, symbolizing unity. The location, between the Obosi township stadium and Afor-adike market, utilizes adjacent land.
