Ogbaru LG in Anambra begins grading Ogwu-Ikpele Road

By Sunny A. David

The grading of the Ossomala to Ogwuikpele section of the Onitsha-Atani-Ogwuikpele Road has commenced.

The over 12 kilometers earth road has not been motorable leading to untold hardship suffered by the people of Obeagwe, Akiliogidi and Ogwuikpele communities.

The Council Chairman, Hon. Arinzechukwu Awogu had during his inspection of the road last week assured the people of government’s determination to open up the road so as to enable indegins of the affected communities access their homes by road instead of through the River Niger.

In keeping to the above assurances, work has commenced in full swing on the road. It is hoped that before the 25th of December that Ogwuikpele could be accessed by road.

The Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Works Committee, Engr. Nnamdi Esimai, said that the promise made by Gov. Willie Obiano that vehicle will get to Ogwuikpele this December is being vigorously pursued by the  Local Government. He assured  that in no distant time that the State Government contractor handling the road will return to site.

Meanwhile, works has started on Obodoukwu Road, as the road has cut into two and water from Sakamori drain flows into the road which is the major cause of the collapse of the road.

“What the Ogbaru Local Government is doing is to first desilt parts of the Sakamori to allow free flow of waste water and then mass-sandfill the road which has commenced in essence.

“It is a challenge but we will surmount it. We are making progress already.

“The desilting is continuing and waste water is now being controled out of the Obodoukwu road to enable sandfilling.”

So said the Deputy Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government, Hon. Sternly Ukado, who was seen supervising the work.

Hon. Ukado also assured that the Council Chairman, Hon. Arinzechukwu Awogu, ment his words on fixing of roads in the Council and affirm that the grading of Obeagwe to Ogwu-Ikpele works has started.
