The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide said the people of south east region and other speaking Igbo areas would forever remain grateful to President Muhammadu Buhari if among the Igbo presidential aspirants under the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) is anonited by him to succeed him in office.

The ruling party would next week hold its Presidential primary in Abuja and it is expected that likes of Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, the former Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the former governor of Imo state, Sen. Rochas Okorocha, former senate president, Sen. Ken Nnamani and the former Minister for Transport, Chief Rotimi Amaechi were among the presidential aspirants from Igbo extraction in APC.

The apex social cultural group also warned that APC would lose the 2023 presidential election, if another northern aspirant emerges flagbearer of the party next week as the case was in PDP.

Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro made this known in a statement in Abakiliki.

“We have seen the second Niger Bridge which is 90 percent near completion and we are very grateful to President Muhammadu Buhari for that but we the Igbo nation will forever remain indebted to Mr. President if he endorses a southerner from Igbo block to succeed him in 2023 in office.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide therefore, appeals to the APC and the leader of the ruling party, President Muhammadu Buhari to choose peace, unity, and harmony above all other primordial considerations as the choice of an Igbo from southeast or Ikwerre in Rivers State, that is the best vaccine to heal and unify Nigeria.

“But the imposition of another northern Presidency in 2023 as done by PDP will not be welcome not only by the Igbos but 70 percent of other Nigerians including the north.

“So, an Igbo presidential candidate under APC, would douse the rising secessionist campaign of the indigenous People of Biafra as nothing is more important than unifying the country with an Igbo as Buhari’s successor.” he stated.

Isiguzoro insisted that it’s patently disingenuous, to abandon the principle of rotation of power in Nigeria that has not outgrown the Quota System and Federal Character.

“it’s patently disingenuous, even foolhardy, to abandon the principle of rotation of power in a Nigeria that has not outgrown the Quota System and Federal Character”, he said.

He further reminded Mr. President that the presidential aspirants from igbo’s extraction have the energy, experience which can engender hope, promote national unity, enforce security and create widespread prosperity, if any of them is given the opportunity to lead the nation.
