Okija fire: Father of 3 burnt children defends wife against rumours of infidelity

The father of the three children that lost their lives in an inferno which happened on the night of Valentine day Mr. Chukwuma Adiruba has described as false and unfounded the rumour that his wife left his children to sleep with another man.
Mr. Adiruba stated this while speaking with our correspondent at his compound, Ugwucheleku kindred, Ubahu Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Two weeks ago, the news of how a middle aged woman left her children at home and went for valentine groove with her lover, only to come back in the morning to meet all her three children dead including a two month old baby was all over the social media.
To verify the authenticity of the news, our correspondent visited Ugwucheleku kindred Ubahu Okija, popularly called Okija one.
The father of the dead children who received our correspondent, Mr. Chukwuma Adiruba, wondered where the rumour originated from as he said he has never had any reason to suspect his wife who has never been associated with any infidelity.
Mr. Adiruba while narrating the incident that led to the ugly situation said he came back from Enugu State where he performed as a musician around eleven o’clock in the night, and left again to perform at a prayer ministry close to their house despite his wife’s pleading not to go.
He said that his attention was called around two o’clock in the morning of 15th of February that his house was on fire, and on rushing to his house, discovered that all his children and belongs were already burnt.
According to him, he saw his wife rolling on the ground half naked with burns on her face, arms and legs, and while trying to cover and lift her up, she became unconscious, and he rushed her to a hospital.
Narrating her ordeal, the mother of the children Mrs. Ogochukwu Adiruba, went down memory lane on how she collected her husband’s phone to light up their house since the battery of her phone had gone off.
She said that the battery on her husband ‘s Phone went off in the midnight when she was forced to light the remaining candle in their house as her children find it difficult to stay without light.
Unknowingly to her because she was in a deep sleep, when the candle caught fire and spread to the whole house.
The bodies of the children have been buried, while their parents are now struggling to eat.
Presently, their major problem is where to lay their heads and cover their nakedness.
