Onitsha Main Market inaugurates COVID-19 task force as markets re-open

The Onitsha Main Market has inaugurated a COVID-19 Taskforce for the market.
The inauguration, performed by the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce, Wealth Creation and Revenue Mobilization, Mr. Uchenna Okafor took place at Bright Street Onitsha.
Addressing members, Commissioner Okafor commended the turnout and cooperation of the traders which he said is in line with the State government directive to check the spread of Coronavirus.
He charged them to enforce all government policy in the market to ensure that traders and their customers wear their face masks, observe social distancing and hand washing rituals.
Also speaking, the President General, Anambra State Amalgamated Traders Association, (ASMATA), Chief Ikechukwu Ekwegbalu, expressed gratitude to Governor Willie Obiano for his support to traders and promised that traders will work tirelessly to ensure that their markets will not derail to avoid shutting down.
The Chairman, Onitsha Main Market Traders Union, Mr. Kenneth Onyeka, regretted that some people are not yet convinced that the virus is real and thanked the Governor Obiano, Honorable Okafor and their President General for all their supports and encouragement, promising not to disappoint them as they will ensure that the virus does not gain entrance into the market.
Meanwhile, Civil Servants in Anambra State have resumed work on Monday, following the relaxation of COVID-19 lockdown announced by Governor Willie Obiano.
Also Markets across the State have reopened for normal business transactions.
In a public service notice released by the Head of Service, Barrister Harry Udu, workers and visitors will only access the offices if they wear their face masks.
It noted that wearing of face mask remains one of the preconditions to gain access into offices.
The release also urged all civil servants to comply with the directive, so as to maintain safety, while in the office.
It then enjoined all workers and indeed intending visitors to strictly uphold all COVID-19 safety procedures installed by the state government.
