To address the frequent delays and challenges residents experience during fire emergencies, the Mayor of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Emeka Orji, has purchased a fire truck to strengthen the area’s fire-response capacity.

Speaking at the Local Government Secretariat in Woliwo shortly after the vehicle arrived, Mayor Orji noted that communities within the LGA have suffered repeated losses from fire incidents in both markets and residential areas. He explained that the recurring destruction is a personal concern and motivated the new investment.

According to him, the truck will not only serve Onitsha South but will also support neighboring communities, including Onitsha North, Okpoko, Ogbaru, Awada, Idemili South, and even parts of Asaba in Delta State.

He stressed that it had become unacceptable for fire outbreaks to occur without timely response due to lack of equipment or delayed intervention.

Mayor Orji further emphasized the need to drastically reduce fire incidents and urged residents to exercise caution when dealing with electricity, gas, and all forms of burning or combustible materials.

Revealing future plans, he announced that four fire service centers will be established across Onitsha South.

The newly acquired truck will operate from Fegge, while additional centers are planned for Odoakpu, Woliwo, and Bridgehead.

He expressed confidence that this network will greatly enhance safety across the four communities in the area.
