Open defecation: Bauchi Rep. donates 1, 000 Sato toilet pans to vulnerable households

In order to reduce the issue of open defecation among residents of Bauchi Federal Constituency in Bauchi State, over 1,000 Sato Pans toilets are to be distributed to vulnerable households to promote hygienic environment.
The gesture is by the Member representing Bauchi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aliyu Aminu Garu.
The lawmaker on Sunday, flagged of the distribution of the Sato toilet pans saying that the pan is working meticulously to offer a better life and a brighter future for citizens.
He further said that Sato toilet pans will enhance sanitation services to open defecation stressed communities, thereby reducing their vulnerability to disease outbreaks.
According to him, “Through innovative sanitation and hygiene solutions, for people living in rural and peri-urban areas. We aim to increase the uptake of sanitation products and ensure consistent use, creating local sanitation economies.”
The lawmaker also said that the donation of the Sato toilet pans was a support from one of his partners, Indorama Fertilizer Company to his Constituency.
Garu said that, “Indorama donated 1,000 Sato pans to me as a support for onward distribution to the vulnerable households in my federal constituency of Bauchi. The entire people of my constituency appreciate Indorama fertilizer company for the gesture.

“The Sato Pans toilets would be distributed across 20 wards of the Constituency, saying each ward would get 20 Sato pans toilets,” Garu said.
On his part, the representative of Indorama company in the North East subregion, Dr Abubakar Sani Indoroma said that it was part of their efforts to support communities through partners.
“We have been doing business with the lawmaker for over 15 years so we feel it is high time to support his people through him. We are going to put 5000 Sato pans toilets into batches. We are starting with 1000, next will be 2500 and so forth,” he said.
Also, the General Manager of Bauchi State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RUWASSA), Sabo Adamu, explained that Sato pans are a water-saving product, with less time of fetching water and keeping up with sanitation and hygiene in water-stressed locations.
According to him, It saves 80% water compared to conventional flush toilets, blocks smell and flies, and also increases safety for children from falling into a pit latrine,
He stressed that, “It reduces odors and disease transmission from insects that come into contact with human waste. A safe toilet, alongside good hand hygiene.”
The General Manager lauded the efforts of the Federal Lawmaker on seeing to end open defecation in his constituency and the entire state assuring that the Agency is always ready for such collaboration.
