The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Muftwang, has stated that his administration, when elected, will not waste its time going after past administrations.
He gave this assurance during a visit to the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Jos.
According to him, the focus of a PDP-led government would be to reform the processes of governance and give the people the desired leadership that the state is suffering from overtime.
“Let me say it, we are not coming in to witch hunt; we will not waste the precious mandate of our people on witch hunt. If there is a tradition of witch hunts in Plateau, we will break it.
“The people of Plateau should be rest assured that if elected, we would reform government processes, and if we found out in the course of the reform that certain things had been done wrong, we would ensure they were blocked and people should be able to correct the mistakes they have made in the past,” he said.
The gubernatorial candidate stressed that since the PDP left power over seven years ago, the State has lost its leadership, adding that the party is offering itself this time around to confront the myriad of problems confronting the state head-on.
He said, “We are capable and confident in our ability to provide the leadership that they want.” “We are more than ready; we would leave no stone unturned in the quest of achieving this.”
Barrister Muftwang, who claimed Plateau State is indebted to the tune of N200 billion, said with this debt, it is glaring that it is not going to be a tea party if elected but promised that the party would harness resources on the ground to move the state out of the woods.
“We are aware of the state of the Nigerian economy, plateau included, but this won’t deter us from using available resources to improve the lot of our people.” We are going to look inward to be able to reposition our state. “The leadership will make the environment conducive for investors to come in for genuine investment,” he said.
While saluting the courage and effort Nigeria Union of Journalists members thus far as members of the forth estate of the realm, he assured them of a better and more robust relationship through partnership. He also promised to take the media to a higher ground.
The Plateau State Council Chairman of the NUJ, Paul Jatau, thanked him for his visit and for also finding journalists worthy to reckon with.
Jatau wished him well and hoped that it’s the beginning of partnership of involving the media in all aspects of good governance for the development of the state and society.
