Comrade Damian Ogudike

By Alphonsus Nweze, Onitsha

As Nigerian youths continue with the #Endbadgovernance protest, a human right activist, Comrade Damian Ogudike, has said that Nigerians should understand that those behind their plights are the international finance agencies, the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Comrade Ogudike said President Bola Tinubu is not in control as to how to end the sufferings of Nigerians because he has surrendered his government to the international finance agencies which pressurized him to remove subsidy on petrolatum products, impose taxes on basic utilities and equally float the naira, which is massive devaluation of naira.

He said these are the bitter pills given to most African leaders especially those who cannot resist it because of the manner they came to power and massive corruption that thrived in the government.

The activist said it would be difficult for President Tinubu to shift ground because he does not have the power to do so as he is bring teleguided by these international finance agencies.

Ogudike said while he shared the plight of Nigerians especially the protesting youth, it is clear that the president cannot positively respond to their demands because he is caged by the imperialist powers.

He however said for those of them in the South East, they avoided the protest because of the manner of treatment given to them in Nigeria and by Nigeria.
The activist said what they in the South East have been suffering before now is even more than hunger strike but they carry it with equanimity.

He however called for president to comprehensively address the issues the protesters are demanding.

Ogudike said if the violent protest that took place in the North had taken place in the South East more than half of Igbo youth would have been slaughtered by security forces.

He called on the Governors especially the South East Governors to return to agriculture like what late Dr. M.I. Okpara, former Premier of Eastern Region’s agricultural policy which boosted food production in the region in the 60s.

Ogudike lamented that apart from Governors Alex Otti of Abia State and Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State who seemed to be having realistic agricultural policies others are just playing to the gallery.

He said Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State and Dr. Peter Mba of Enugu State were just paying lips service to serious agricultural revolution, while Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State is nowhere to be found in food production programmes at all.
