A lawyer and former personal assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on prosecution Chief Okoi Obono-Obla has revealed that more than 30 cases are pending in the Federal High Court, Calabar, challenging the APC leadership in the state.
Many other suits are also challenging the alleged shabby, disorderly, and sham manner the last party primaries were conducted in the state.
In a statement released Saturday morning in Calabar, Obono-Obla said the more troubling litigation is the one challenging the legitimacy of the present state executive committee led by Barrister Alphonsus Ogar.
He enumerated that few others he could readily mention include the tussle over the House of Representatives candidate for the Ikom/Boki Federal constituency, which has led to the filing of more than ten cases by aggrieved aspirants against the party.
“Also, there is litigation over the way and manner of the primaries to nominate the candidate for the House of Obubra/Etung Federal constituency.
“There is litigation concerning who is the senatorial candidate for Cross River’s northern senatorial district.
“There is litigation concerning the candidate for the central senatorial district.
“There is litigation concerning who are candidates for almost all the State constituencies of the House of Assembly, amongst others.”
According to him, he said that it is sad how alleged poor leadership has reportedly destroyed the party in the State.
Obono-Obla who was recently rumoured to be looking at defecting to Labour Party said, “I envision a re-enactment of the Zamfara and Rivers Stats scenarios that prevented APC from filing candidates in the 2019 general election. See what poor leadership and selfishness can cause.”
He has therefore predicted that the ruling APC in Cross River State can suffer a massive defeat if elections are held today.
Obono-Obla who was allegedly defeated during the just concluded Cross River Central Senatorial primaries, emphasised that the party presently is in a state of disarray and there is massive discontentment among her members.
“If elections are held today the party will surely suffer a massive defeat.
“Aggrieved aspirants, angry with the callous and vicious manner the potentate and his conquering army manipulated the primaries to favour aspirants from their side to fly the party’s flag have filed several lawsuits against the party in the State, seeking redress. These plethora of lawsuits were filed by aggrieved aspirants at APC panels set up to hear complaints arising from the primaries. But they failed to hear these complaints.”
