Over 300 constituents benefit from Senator Katung’s free medical programme

By Ahmad A. Usman, Kafanchan

No fewer than three hundred constituents from Kaduna South Senatorial District have benefited from the first phase of a free medical outreach by the Senator representing the zone, Barrister Sunday Marshall Katung.

The one-day event, held on Friday at the Senator’s constituency office in Kafanchan, was organized in collaboration with the Health Professionals for SMK group.

Declaring the medical outreach open, Senator Katung, who was represented by Pastor Gideon Mutum, said he chose to begin his medical outreach with members of all his support groups because of the unfortunate loss of a member of the Divas for SMK group.

While emphasizing his resolve to work with other lawmakers to actualize the dream of establishing a Federal Medical Centre in the zone, the Senator pledged to organize a more elaborate medical outreach soon that will cover the entire constituency.

He urged his constituents to regularly attend to their health needs by going for check-ups to avoid unforeseen circumstances that might lead to untimely death due to negligence.

Earlier, the Coordinator of Health Professionals for SMK, Dr. Gad Ezekiel, said patients would undergo different tests, ranging from blood pressure, sugar level, Hepatitis B and C, dental and ear care services, and malaria tests.

He said that where a patient is diagnosed positive, he or she will be provided with free medication and counseling on the best way to handle the illness.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Eziekel Christopher and Miss Bilkisu Alhassan thanked the sponsor of the free medical outreach for the gesture, which they noted had reduced the expenses they would have incurred if they had gone to the hospital for check-ups.

They called on other representatives to emulate the gesture so that more people will benefit from free medical care.
