Pan coalition reject suspension of Quan-Pan council chair by Plateau assembly
By Raymond Gukas, Jos
A coalition of the Pan Nation of Quan-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State has described as unjust the suspension of the Council Chairman, Isaac Kyale Kwallu by the state house of assembly.
The coalition in a letter addressed to the speaker, Abok Nuhu Ayuba and signed by five associations of the Pan nation
called on the state assembly to rescind its unpopular decision so that the Chairman can continue with his developmental projects for the people.
According to the letter, it was ironical that the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, during its oversight visit to the Local Government Area on Wednesday the 24th June, 2020 attested to the wonderful services the Chairman was rendering and then a suspension thereafter.
“We have however, received with utmost dismay and reservations in a sudden twist, the self-contradictory action of the Plateau State House of Assembly which purportedly suspended Hon. Isaac Kyale Kwallu on allegations of insubordination and non-payment of the salaries of some Honorable Councilors of the Local Council on Tuesday, 30th June, 2020 via Peace 90.5 FM Radio.
“The position of the Law is very clear regarding the role of the Elected Councilors as the Institution which is responsible for checkmating the excesses of the Executive at the Local Government Level. It is therefore apposite, that this unpopular decision is reversed immediately, in the interest of Plateau State, as the ridicule which will be attached to this unpopular and illegal act, will generate negative publicity for the Plateau State House of Assembly and the good People of Plateau State”, the letter stated”
They then pray that the Plateau State House of Assembly will reverse forthwith, this “ignoble decision through a timely statement in order to restore its standing as representatives of the people. This would allow the hard-working Chairman, continue his efforts at improving the lot of the Pan people who have suffered unjustly by this action.”
The coalition leadership that signed the letter include Pan Development Association, ( PDA), PAN Women Association (PWA), PAN Youth Association (PYA) and National Association of Pan Students (NAPANS).
Letter was copied the governor, his deputy, president of the state traditional council of chiefs and emirs, the Lond Pan, the two members representing the council in the state assembly from north and south state constituencies.
Others are all the members of the assembly, the state DSS director, state police commissioner and the traditional ruler of the speaker’s constituency, the Adagwom Izere, the chairman of Afizere development Association and the Afizere Youth Movement President.
