Panic as gunmen abduct Nasarawa Governor’s aide Osolafia

Gunmen believed to be kidnappers have abducted Dr. Muhammed Egye Osolafia who is popularly known as Deedat, the Senior Special Assistant on Humanitarian Services to Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State.
Investigation by our correspondent indicates that the governor’s aide reportedly to have been abducted shortly after he arrived at his home in Tudun Amba area of Lafia on Saturday night.
The assailants were said to have arrived the area shooting sporadically into the air before heading straight for their target.
Osolafia’s colleague, Mr. Peter Ahemba, who is the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sule on Public Affairs, confirmed the ugly incident to our correspondent via a telephone interview on Sunday in Lafia, the state capital.
He said that the government is aware of the incident and had since directed security agencies to do everything humanly possible to secure the release of the victim unconditional.
His words, “The government is not going to relent in her efforts. Government will continue to do everything humanly possible in collaboration with the security agencies to ensure that the state is safe.and not just Lafia, but all parts of the state are safe for citizens to go about their legitimate businesses.”
“The state government has received the news of the unfortunate development and directed security agencies to ensure that the victim who was kidnapped is released unconditionally without further delay,” concluded.
Ahemba, however, continued, “We appreciate the efforts of our security agencies. They are doing quite a lot, sacrificing to ensure that there is peace and security of lives and property is guaranteed across the state. We urge them to continue and redouble their efforts. Since the matters are still coming up, they should not relent.”
According to him, the state government would continue to give the security operatives all the enabling environment and the necessary support in order to carying out their job effectively and efficiently.
Ahemba, who described the ugly development as sad and unfortunate, narrated that he received the news of the abduction from another colleague.
Osolafia’s abduction came about two months after the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information and Culture, Barrister Yusuf Musa was similarly abducted from his residence in Ungwan Nungu, also in Lafia.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Command, SP Ramhan Nansel could not be immediately reached for comment on the incident as at the time of filling in this report.
