Following the ongoing polio vaccinations, the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ADPHDA) has urged parents and caregivers to make children available to be vaccinated.
The Executive Chairman of the agency, Dr. Suleiman Bashir, made the request in an interactive session with journalists in Yola.
According to the Agency, the vaccine is save and effective.
The Agency says it has deployed at least 5,433 health officials in the 21 Local Government Areas for the second round of polio vaccination.
According to Bashir, the exercise was carried out between November 11 and November 14 and would target at least one million children aged 0-59 months in the 226 wards.
He noted that the state did not have any case of polio but that the vaccine was meant to help boost the children’s immunity against the virus.
He reiterated that, in the first round, 1, 3 04,713 children were vaccinated.
“This made the state to achieve 103 per cent of the exercise,” he said.
The Executive Chairman revealed that the previous exercise was conducted for some children in the Internally Displaced Persons camps.
Bashir, however, commended the agency’s partners, including the media as well as traditional and religious leaders, for their support and contribution toward ensuring the wellbeing of Adamawa people.
