Pataskum Emir confers traditional title of Shettima Ilimube on varsity don

The Emir of Pataskum, His Royal Highness, Mai Alhaji Umar Bubaram Ibn Wuriwa Bauya OON, has conferred the traditional title of Shettima Ilimube on the Associate Professor Ahmed Mohammed Bedu, a renowned Linguistic scholar in at the University of Maiduguri.

According to the confirmation letter from the Emirate, the esteemed title of Shettima Ilimube is reserved for advisory chieftains who are to provide counsel to the emir on matters of scholarship in both Western and Islamic education within the Emirate.

It also asked the new Shettima Ilimube to bring his experience as a season academic to document the language, history, and culture of the Potiskum people.

Speaking through the Talban Potiskum, Dr. Suleiman Jaji, the Emir of Pataskum informed the newly appointed Shettima Ilimube that, the appointment was in recognition of his hard work, contribution and dedication towards the development of Potiskum town and Yobe State, through numerous academic research and community services.

The Talban Pataskum urged the Shettima Ilimube to utilise his academic networks to increase the visibility of the rich history and culture of the Emirate and its people in academic literature through research.

He also urged the new traditional title holder to remain resolute in upholding the esteemed title and contribute to the growth and development of the Emirate.

Mr. Bedu who was a former Chairman of Nigeria Union Journalists in Yobe State, holds a Doctorate degree (Ph.D) in Western Languages and Literature from Suleyman Demirel University, Isparta, Turkey and authored and edited a number of books including the famous Ngzim-Hausa-English Dictionary.

In his response, Dr. Bedu, accompanied by his family, friends, relatives, and well-wishers, were at the palace of the Emir of Pataskum to pay homage and thank the Royal Highness Alh. Umaru Bubaram Ibn Wuriwa Bauya for honouring the University Don.

However, With over thirty published articles in reputable national and international journals and several chapters in books on varied issues in media discourse studies and Critical Discourse Analysis, Dr. Bedu is a member of the various professional bodies that include Linguistic Association of Nigeria (LAN), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
