Dr. Phillips Omeiza Salawu
There are powerful indicators pointing to the final selection of Dr. Phillips Omeiza SALAWU, a former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, the First National Director of Finance of the PDP and a former BoT member of the Party, as the consensus candidate for the exalted office of the Substantive National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP).
The result of this painstaking selection exercise by the Critical Stakeholders of the Party is very likely to be announced on Thursday October 24, 2024 at the next meeting of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the Party.
The PDP Governors Forum, the PDP National Assembly Caucus and the PDP Association of National Ex-Officio Members at their various meetings have declared for the search of a Credible Candidate of North Central GeoPolitical extraction, who will be selected in accordance with the PDP’s constitution, to take over the current leadership of the Party, as the Substantive National Chairman upto December 2025.
The three Critical Organs of the PDP maintained that such Credible Candidate must be Neutral and Non-Aligned with any of the known power blocs in the PDP. The three organs of the Party believe that the issue of Neutrality is very important so that the right candidate can possess the necessary Moral Authority needed for the effective resolutions of the lingering and divisive issues threatening the corporate existence of the party.
With this Core Value of the incoming Substantive National Chairman of the Party in mind, there is no candidate amongst all the names being suggested as possible candidates for the office of the PDP National Chairman, that is more NEUTRAL than the Candidacy of Dr. Phillips O Salawu of Kogi State.
The Candidacy of Dr. Phillips O Salawu is most neutral of all the contestants from the North Central GeoPolitical Zone because he made it very clear in his various campaign circulars that he must be very neutral to enable him acquire the Moral Authority to carry out his “3-R” Policy Agenda to reposition the PDP and this his “3-R” had been decoded to mean, RECONCILIATION, RESTRUCTURING and RESTORATION.
The Candidacy of Dr. Phillips Omeiza Salawu even has more Political Utilities, apart from the Core Value of Neutrality, that would help the party to come out of its present self inflicted wounds.
His Excellency Dr. Phillips O Salawu has no blemish and has never been associated with any known scandal which the opposition of PDP could easily exploit in near future to embarrass the Party at critical situations. Dr. Phillips O Salawu is a man of clean integrity in his services to the Nation at the Private Corporate level and in his Public Governmental engagements. He was a career banker for twelve years without any blemish and a loyal Deputy Governor for nine years without any quarrel with his Political Boss.
Dr. Phillips O Salawu has a deep knowledge of the PDP’s history, being a founding member/father of the party on the 31st of August 1998 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja FCT when the party was formed and named.
He became the PDP’s first National Director of Finance and deployed his technical and professional expertise as a Chartered Accountant, to design and implement the accounting system of the party and advised the stakeholders on how best to raise funds for the party.
Dr Salawu also has a deep knowledge of the Nigerian GeoPolitical history and its complexities. He is aware of the differing needs of the six geopolitical zones and how best to accommodate their emerging demands.
Dr. Phillips O Salawu is a Chartered Mediator and a Chartered Conciliator, and has in stock, the professional skills that will aid him to quickly and effectively reconcile the different power blocs within the PDP. The issue of Effective Reconciliation is very central in his mind.
Dr. Phillips O Salawu is a qualified lawyer being a Barrister and a Solicitor at the Supreme Court of Nigeria, having successfully gone to the Nigerian Law School and had been called to the Nigerian Bar.
His knowledge of Law will be an added advantage when needs arise to properly interpret the constitution of the party, to maintain the Rule of Law and to ensure the Party Supremacy.
Dr. Phillips O Salawu made enormous sacrifices and positive contributions to the foundation and growth of the PDP by deploying his intellectual, technical, professional, material, institutional and logistic resources in service of the party at its most crucial moments.
Dr. Phillips O Salawu has other important qualities that are necessary for the occupant of the exalted office of the Substantive National Chairman of the Party, PDP.
