Peace Commission engages elders to settle aggrieve Kaduna communities

In line with it’s mandate of ensuring peaceful coexistence in crisis ridden communities in Kaduna State, the Kaduna Peace Commission met with some selected elders from Chawai, Irigwe and Fulani communities in Tsam (Chawai) Chiefdom, Kauru Local Government Area of the state to resolve the disputes.
Apex News Exclusive reports that Kizachi community in Chawai Chiefdom is the recent community to be attacked with about twelve people losing their lives.
In her opening remarks, the Permanent Commissioner, Kaduna State Peace Commission, Hajiya Khadijah Gambo Hawaja, said the meeting was convened to identify the main actors in the lingering crisis, towards bringing them to table.
She appealed to participants to feel free and objectively discuss and suggest those they feel should be contacted by the Commission in the affected areas, to find a common ground.
Hajiya Gambo, however, said the commission intends to sustain the engagement with the people, untill total peace is restored between the aggrieved parties.
In his remark, the District Head of Chawai, Mr. Joshua Ahmadu who spoke on behalf of the Chiefdom, thanked the Commission for the move to settle warring communities and solicited the maximum support of people to achieve the set objectives.
He tasked religious leaders to continue to preach what unites the people instead of what divides them.
In their separate contributions, the Divisional Police Officer in Damakasuwa and the Officer in charge of Special Forces Damakasuwa, both advised the people to desist from acts that will breach the relative peace currently being enjoyed in the area.
