No fewer than 250 vulnerable women have received grinding machines and food items from a Kaduna-based philanthropist and entrepreneur, Barrister Catherine Bitrus, in Manchok, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Each beneficiary also went home with foodstuffs including bags of rice, cartons of noodles, vegetable oil and seasoning cubes.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, Bitrus, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Natural Beauty Secret, said the initiative was aimed at supporting rural women grappling with hardship.
“I have been blessed by God, and I believe it is right to share His blessings with others,” she said. “I decided to reach out to these women because we all know how difficult things are for many of them.”
She encouraged the women not to give up on themselves, urging them to remain focused and hardworking.
Bitrus pledged to sustain the initiative, saying it was her modest contribution to improving the welfare of vulnerable members of society. She also lauded Governor Uba Sani for creating an enabling environment for women to thrive in the state.
Also speaking, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Barrister James Kanyip, applauded the gesture and called on other well-meaning individuals and organisations to emulate the philanthropist by reaching out to the less privileged.
On his part, chairman of the planning committee, Mr. Lucky Ezra, described Bitrus as a woman with deep concern for her community and the underprivileged.
He charged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items given to them, stressing the importance of economic empowerment at the grassroots.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Josephine Bature expressed appreciation to Bitrus, praying God to reward her generosity.
“We are truly overwhelmed with joy. It is our prayer that God will bless her abundantly and enable her to continue supporting others in need,” she said.
