Politics in Nigeria, right from time immemorial, have been interesting as well as mind boggling. Intrigues are the trademarks of many politicians and their ways are very difficult to understand.
With 2027 general elections on the horizon and their interests foremost, trade horsing has become the order of the day. Changing ship midstream is no longer a thing to be ashamed of as many governors of other parties have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) with others gearing up to join.
After going through a rigorous election process in 2023 and won under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), governors Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, defected in April 2025, Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State in June 2025, Peter Mbah of Enugu State in October 2025, Douye Diri, Bayelsa State and Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.
Also, following their footprints are governors Dr. Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State and Kano State Governor, Engineer Abba Yusuf among others.
Many Nigerians have been commenting on these gale of defections never seen in the political history of the country.
Arguments continue to ensue on various spheres of discourse on reasons why these defections are rife.
Such discourses at drinking joints usually illicit good listening. At a local drinking joint at Abinsi in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, some individuals savour in Pito (Local famertted millet brew) while discussing Nigeria politics.
A dialogue:
Oga James: President Tinubu de give each govenor wey decamp to APC get N250billion.
Pastor: Oga James, na lie, na N500billion them say Tinubu de give them.
Oga James: Haba, dat money big ohh.
Pastor: Tinubu get am. Him want do anything to win election for 2027. If you no support am or come APC, EFCC go pursue you. No so politics be. Asiwaju na bad politician.
Most times you get unfiltered analysis and frank talks at drinking joints which sometimes degenerate into fisticuffs. But even as people worry about the polity, nothing comes to them in terms of social welfare only imposition of more taxes.
Even as the ordinary people try to drink Pito to forget their, they never get enough to drink because of lean pockets but it is the politicians and leaders who get drunk in on their behalf in billions of naira even in dollars. Na so I see am.

Osimhen: How not to manage fame
I was irked with the Yellow Card the Referee handed down to Victor Osimhen after scoring in the 44 minute against Tunisia at the ongoing African Nations Cup, for stupidly and disdainfully pointing at the Assistant Referee for earlier ruling him off side and disallowing a goal.
I was totally amazed with that attitude at a competition the world was watching the highest level of African football. I believe it’s too early in the career of Osimhen to exhibit such bad character we begin to see in previous matches where he engage in fights with players.
Agreed that you have achieved some feats in football even becoming African Footballer of the Year in 2023 and eighth at the 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony, becoming the first Nigerian to make the top ten of the French award, you haven’t reached the peak yet. Sports is not only about playing but also about character and discipline. So, Osimhen cool down before you go the way Etim Esim. That’s my take. Na so I see am
