The Partner for Legislative Agenda of Nigeria (PLAN) has congratulated Nigeria’s former minister of finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala over her appointment as a Special Envoy for the newly inaugurated Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

She is to serve alongside British business executive, Andrew Witty, in the same capacity, to mobilise international commitment to the initiative.

The appointment comes weeks after the IMF named Dr Okonjo-Iweala a member of the fund’s External Advisory Group.

The Director-General of WHO Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, made the announcement during the launch of the ACT Accelerator — via webinar from Geneva.

In a congratulatory message signed by Khalifa Bello Adamu, National Coordinator, Partner for Legislative Agenda of Nigeria (PLAN), the organisation described the appointment as well deserving.

The statement reads in parts:

“The Partner for Legislative Agenda of Nigeria (PLAN) heartily congratulate you on your appointment as  a Special Envoy for the newly inaugurated Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

“Your well deserved appointment did not come as a surprise as you have proven overtime to be a model of excellence in your service to humanity.

“We are confident that your capacity to deliver on your new responsibility to mobilise international commitment to efforts to address the global challenge of COVID-19.”
